Position Summary The Manager of Surgical Services is a registered professional nurse who participates as an active administrative member of the Nursing Management Team. The Manager of Surgical Services assumes 24-hour responsibility in directing and coordinating safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care for patients on the assigned unit/department. Principal responsibilities include strategic planning, service delivery, program development, evaluation and implementation, budget and resource management, cost control, contract compliance and quality improvement. The Manager of Surgical Services maintains current competency with nursing skills required for the assigned unit/department and demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of Practice in the assigned area. He/she demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth & development over life span, and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status, and to interpret the data appropriately to identify patient requirements specific to the patient’s age. The Manager of Surgical Services remains calm in crisis and emergency situations, and directs staff members effectively and appropriately. The Manager, Surgery maintains professional and effective working relationships with all members of the Health Care Team. EDUCATION: Degree in Nursing required. BSN preferred. CNOR certification preferred. Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration or in Nursing preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in management of Surgical Services programs. Proficiency in surgical suite nursing procedures and skills required. Experienced in leadership, management, and establishing interpersonal relationships necessary to promote an effective working environment required. Practical experience dealing with hospital and departmental policies and procedures is required, including comprehensive knowledge of budgeting, continuous quality assurance, Medicare and Joint Commission regulations required.
