The Director for Finance & Administration, Student Life is a strategic thought-partner, and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Life. The Director will play a critical role in partnering with the Associate Vice President’s Council in strategic decision making and operations as Student Life continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. The Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all accounts and oversee all financial, state, project, program and grants accounting. The Director will develop an annual strategic plan for financial goals for unit top tier initiatives. Other duties include student engagement programs and activities, fundraising, and collaboration with administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, business partners, community partners, academic departments, or higher education institutions to achieve Student Life top tier initiatives. This position provides leadership, guidance and oversight in the areas of general accounting, accounts payable, capital projects accounting, accounts receivable, payroll and financial systems for Student Life which includes Housing & Residential Life, Student Involvement & Activities, Service Learning & Leadership, Student Union and Events Services, Student Life Maintenance, Campus Recreational Services, Student Life Technology, and Student Life Business Services.

Monitors and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, state statutes, governmental accounting standards and Nevada system of Higher Education (NSHE) policies and procedures to ensure safekeeping and proper record keeping of financial resources. The allocation of resources must be carefully done in order to maximize limited resources. If not carefully monitored, resources could be misspent preventing programming from occurring. Processing of fiscal obligations must be made timely and accurately to protect the universities relationships with vendors and merchants. Failure in this area could result in a vendors’ refusal to work with our campus. The revenue generated by room and board, student fees, and rentals must be carefully managed to meet annual and future expenses. This includes annual expenses such as debt service, operating expenses, salaries, and departmental supplies. If effective fiscal management is not practiced, the unit might fall behind in debt service payments, and additional staff to handle increasing growth may not be hired. This in turn might impede the efficient delivery of service to students, which might cause the students to not want to access our facilities (residence halls, student union, student recreation center) thereby negatively impacting the budget. In additional appropriate use of university systems are critical. Failure to effectively manage the use of fiscal resources could result in the use of the systems being suspended or revoked.

Requires the ability to analyze assessment results to determine the allocation of resources in order to ensure that the unit remains responsive to student needs. Mismanagement of budgets and purchasing procedures can lead to failed audits and budget shortfalls. Failure to oversee accounts receivable (commissions, facility rentals, student fees) can also lead to budget shortfalls. Finally, the Director builds and maintains effective personal connections both within the University and among community stakeholders and works closely with staff to develop strategic outreach plans for the department(s) to engage the campus and community.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years post-bachelors of increasing responsibility in leadership and financial management experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment


Master’s degree in accounting, finance or other business-related fields preferred. Minimum of 6 years of recent applicable experience in finance and accounting with at least three years in a significant managerial role.


Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
