It is the combination of compassion, expertiseand a commitment to providing the latest imaging technology that makes DesertRadiology the premier choice for outpatient imaging procedures.POSITION SUMMARYDesert Radiology in Las Vegas, Nevada isseeking an Ultrasound Technologist that will perform ultrasound procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease orinjury.POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Performs ultrasound procedures asprescribed by a physician. Followsestablished techniques and methods in operating equipment and processingimages. Ensures technical quality ofimages and exercises judgment in processing assigned work load.2. Assists the radiologist in performingimage-guided diagnostic and invasive procedures (e.g., paracentesis,thoracentesis, and hysterosonograms).3. Prepares patients for ultrasoundprocedures. In doing so, escortspatients to dressing and ultrasound rooms, provides verbal and writteninstructions and positions patients for the proper view of the affectedarea. Selects transducer, and makesequipment adjustments according to the nature of test, depth of field and otherspecifications of test. Ensures safetyprocedures and universal precautions are used at all times.4. Assesses the patient’s previousexams/reports to include loading or digitizing outside studies, ifavailable/applicable, prior to performing the ultrasound procedure. Reviews thereferral form for each procedure and ensures accuracy of the referral in thesystem; accurately communicates the referral to the radiologist. For certainprocedures, may administer medication as prescribed by a physician.5. Performs related technical and/oradministrative duties which include, but are not limited to: Completing necessary paperwork andlabeling images. Reviewing scheduled patientappointments and contacting patient, via telephone, to confirm appointmentdate, time, location and other pertinent information, such as copayment amountand forms of payment accepted. Advises the patient of any preparations requiredfor the procedure. Ordering and reviewing labs. Coordinating the exam with othermodalities. Communicating “stat” results toreferring physicians. Performing all necessary functionsrelating to the RIS/PACS. Assisting patient at all times(including on and off the exam table and to and from a vehicle, if necessary). Assisting the front office andscheduling staff with technical questions regarding radiology procedures. Communicating with the front officestaff as to the status of the schedule.6. Maintains adequate level of suppliesin examination rooms and reorders as necessary. Ensures equipment is operating properly and contacts appropriate partyfor equipment repair in order to ensure safe and efficient examination ofpatients. 7. Actively participates in thequality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department. Assists in duties related to ACRaccreditation.8. Continues to develop professionally;maintains registry and current knowledge of the radiology profession to ensurecontinued contributions to the patients, referring physicians, and the company.DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS ANDEXPERIENCEThis position calls for a highlyorganized individual as their role will require self-direction, flexibility,and a capacity to give and receive feedback graciously. Ultrasound Technologistshould possess the following professional qualifications and personalattributes:1. Knowledge of ultrasound technologyprinciples and procedures, normally acquired through completion of ultrasoundtechnology training program2. Knowledge and work experiencenecessary in order to independently conduct routine and specialized radiologictests, to assist physicians with special techniques or procedures, and tobecome familiar with physician and department work methods and facilitypolicies and procedures3. Knowledge of and experience in usingoffice equipment including telephone, fax, computer and photocopier4. Knowledge of and experience in usingradiology-related computer systems (RIS/PACS)5. Interpersonal skills necessary inorder to effectively interact with physicians, other facility staff, patientsand families when providing instructions or responding to questions or exchangingpatient-related information6. Ability to maintain confidentiality ofpatient record information7. Analytical skills necessary in orderto conduct routine ultrasound tests and review results for accuracy andquality, to verify patient information, to complete material for medicalrecord, and to monitor supply levels8. Ability to concentrate and pay closeattention to detail when conducting or assisting with diagnostic radiologicprocedures9. Ability to lift a minimum of 60 poundswhen assisting and positioning body parts or handling and transporting supplies10. Current certification incardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) recognized by the American HeartAssociation11. Current registry by the AmericanRegistry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) (or must beregistry-eligible and obtain registry within one year of employment intechnologist position)PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDSPositionrequires varied physical activities including sitting, walking, bending,reaching, lifting and stooping; requires eye-hand coordination, fingerdexterity, and occasional lifting and/or carrying items; requires ability tolift a minimum of 60 pounds when assisting and positioning body parts orhandling and transporting supplies.
