Robotics Field Service Technician – West Coast

The role reports to the Field Service Manager- Robotics and will mostly cover the West Coast territory – and other areas when needed. As a Robotics Field Service Technician, this person is a primary interface between the customer and the ABB Robotic Service Organization and plays a significant role in determining the Company’s image as viewed by the customer. The field organization is greatly dependent on this person’s efficient follow-through and communications. Responsiveness, communication, and continuous follow-up are key components of providing excellent customer service to our customers. This position has a high impact on corporate revenues and on effectively servicing customers

Your responsibilities

  • Perform on-call emergency repairs of ABB Robotic system equipment in the field, also provide system integration support of ABB robots to designated build shops as well as the end-users.
  • Perform robot program changes such as logic, software, and path alterations through either off-line or on-line methodology.
  • Have a mechanical aptitude for performing any mechanical component repair or replacement and provide robot-specific or systems training in an informal environment to customers as required.
  • Know about PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) communications and other robotic peripheral equipment
  • Ability to communicate with customers (external and internal) in high-pressure situations and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Ability to be proactive to support customer needs and strong initiative in finding work activities during slow periods.
  • Capable of traveling on short notice and handle rigors of air travel and submit sales leads for additional Robotic and system opportunities
  • Communicate work location and status daily, ability to think analytically, ability to work autonomously, and make sound judgments.

Your background

  • High School Diploma, or GED, with 5 years’ experience in field service / maintenance, troubleshooting, commission / installation, automation projects, customer support, OR Associate degree, preferably in a technical field, and 3 years’ experience in field service / maintenance, troubleshooting, commission / installation, automation projects, customer support, OR Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, and minimum experience required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.
  • Open to travel about 80% – this is a on-call duty role.
  • Preferably with 1 year of experience with mechanical, electrical, robotic, controls, or engineering experience. Mechanical aptitude for performing any mechanical component repair or replacement.
  • Good to have knowledge of PLC communications and other robotic peripheral equipment, and C++, troubleshooting, RAPID, etc. Formal training or equivalent experience preferred with the ability to read and understand electrical drawings with solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Windows).
