Coder Technician

We’re looking for someone to join our team as a Coder Technician who: Analyzes and abstracts health information to assign medical codes.

Identifies relevant diagnoses and procedures to accurately reflect the health care services provided.

Assists in capturing medical data that are complete, accurate and compliant for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance.

Essential Functions: Performs necessary chart abstracting to ensure completion of necessary fields prior to coding access.

Validates attending and consulting physician abstract.

Validates dates and charges to ensure they match actual services perfumed.

Reviews Charge Viewer to validate charges, modifiers, and supply charges.

Validates bogus codes and E/M levels prior to coding access.

Reviews, identifies and completes charge corrections prior to review by coder.

Works with corresponding departments to resolve identified issues prior to coding.

Follows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory bodies.

Collaborates to provide coding feedback and education to departmental leadership regarding completeness and accurateness of documentation and physician coding practices.

Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, and payers.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

You’ll be successful with the following qualifications: Education: High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred Associate’s / Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred Work Experience: Experience in an acute care hospital setting: Preferred Required Licenses/Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCA) or enrollment in an AHIMA approved Coding Education Course: Preferred Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (Critical Access Sites Only): Preferred Certified Coding Specialist (CCS): Preferred Adventist Health is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our associates and patients.
