* VideosVideos* DutiesHelpDutiesSummaryThis position is a Senior Social Worker and functions as the Program Coordinator for the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) VHA-Vocational Rehabilitation Program (VHA-VR) located at the Veterans Recovery Center. S/he is responsible for oversight and coordination of the three (3) program components under Compensated Work Therapy (CWT), including CWT- Transitional Work (TW), CWT- Supportive Employment (SE), and CWT- Community Based Employment Services (CBES).Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesVHA-VR services are provided across the VASNHS including the Veterans Recovery Center, the Medical Center, and the Las Vegas Residential Recovery and Renewal Center (LVR3). S/he reports directly to the Chief of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Services (PSR) Services. Incumbent is responsible for monitoring the efficiency, effectiveness, timeliness and quality of VHA-VR services. This includes development and monitoring of quality indicators; supervisory review mechanisms; and review of workload data from Vista, MCA, and VSSC. The incumbent ensures the total VHA-VR program is fully compliant with directives from the VHA national program office, Joint Commission and CARF standards. S/he is responsible for the accuracy of required clinical records as well as any reports due to higher level reporting entities (e.g., VASNHS Leadership, VISN, NEPEC, VACO, and Joint Commission).The Social Worker Program Coordinator directly supervises the multidisciplinary clinical and administrative VHA-VR staff. Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to: the delegation of authority to approve or disapprove leave, provide work assignments, the evaluation and rating of supervisee’s work performance, recommendations for awards, status changes, and disciplinary actions, and participation in the selection and separation of assigned staff. Also, provides direct patient care at an advanced practice level for a clinical social worker. Veterans participating in VHA-VR services come from a wide geographic area. Their healthcare, psychosocial problems, and needs are complex and require a high degree of clinical oversight, interdisciplinary team care coordination, and creative problem solving.This position may be eligible for student loan repayment through the VA Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to: Experience: One year recent supervisory experience.Grade Determinations: GS-0185-12, Supervisory Social WorkerExperience/Education. Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master’s degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure.Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:* Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.* Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.* Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.* Ability to provide staff training and development.* Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities.
