Network Security Engineer

Link Technologies is seeking a Network Security Engineer for a contract to hire with a leading organization in the IT industry in Las Vegas NV.  
Position Description:
The Network Security Engineer is responsible for advancing the effectiveness and operational maturity of all new and existing security systems with a special focus on network systems including firewalls, web proxies, load balancers, DNS services, NAC, network based DLP and IDS/IPS. He/she will partner with peers in IT operations to advance the security posture through the tactical and operational execution of established IT policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Work with information security leadership to develop strategies and plans to enforce network security requirements and mitigate identified risks.
  • Under the direction of security leadership, develop, maintain, and execute a comprehensive set of standards for writing, implementing, and maintaining a large-scale set of next-generation firewall and web proxy rules. Precise design and maintenance of firewall zones, security rules, NAT rules, address objects, and address groups is required. Thoughtful consideration for consistent object naming and rule sorting is required.
  • Execute extensive restructure of existing firewall rules based on in-depth analysis of traffic logs, identifying and removing the presence of legacy rules that do not meet current standards.
  • Leverage the existing corporate SIEM to determine, reduce, and communicate expected production impact of firewall rule changes based on historical log data.
  • Regularly collaborate with network engineering to ensure networking and infrastructure changes meet or exceed security levels prior to the change, as determined by internal security standards and guidelines.
  • Leverage new and existing threat intel feeds to implement intel-based network controls at the network traffic and DNS levels.
  • Support a maturing architecture-first change governance model through expert-level interpretation of traffic, web, and DNS logs. Collaborate with IT peers to support understanding, diagramming, and documenting network-level system integration details.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Cyber Security Investigation team to mature the detection and response of intrusion-detection events.
  • Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on network security systems development and best practices.
  • Function as technical resolver on complex network security troubleshooting issues.
  • Support information security systems through creation and maintenance of troubleshooting procedures and training of Tier 1 staff, with a special focus on troubleshooting network security controls.
  • Under the direction of security leadership, work with product and service partners to advance and mature network security systems through documentation, assessment, and execution of product implementation and configuration against best practice and business requirements.
  • Assists with risk assessment activities, including analyzing the results of audits to produce recommendations of acceptable risk and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assists in the development of security architecture and security policies, principles and standards.
  • Research, evaluate, tests, and recommend the implementation of new or updated information security technologies.
  • Participate in and support security investigations and compliance reviews as requested.
  • Provide second and third-level support and analysis during and after a security incident.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, security news, and best practices. 
High school diploma and university degree in the fields of Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Security and/or 6 years equivalent work experience.
High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show an appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills for leadership, technical, and business audiences.
Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.
Must be a critical thinker, with exceptional skills to perform independent research and problem solving.
Detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined, with excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
Able to work transparently while open to scrutiny. Must be driven for excellence with the goal to build world-class security operations.
Excellent technical knowledge of network security systems including firewalls, web proxies, DNS security services, NAC, network based DLP and IDS/IPS.
Working technical knowledge of network systems including routers, switches, wireless, load balancers, and network monitoring systems
Experience with client and server systems on Windows, macOS, and Linux for the purpose of applying context to network traffic logs. 
Experience with identifying, troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting production impact of changes to network security systems.
Specific knowledge of authentication technologies such as AD, NIS, SSO, SAML, OAuth, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS , 802.1x, NAC, Microsoft Certificate Services, and PKI in general.
Ability to develop control requirements for SOX, PCI-DSS, ISO-27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and jurisdictional gaming regulations (e.g. Nevada MICS). 
Strong consideration given for network related work experience and certifications, specifically one or more of the following certifications:
  • Splunk Core Certificated Advanced Power User
  • (ISC)2 SSCP
  • (ISC)2 CISSP
  • (ISC)2 ISSAP
 Strong consideration given for network related work experience and certifications, specifically one or more of the following certifications:
  • CCNA
  • CCNP
  • Strong consideration for applied experience in an engineer level IT operations role.
  • Exceptional candidates will have experience in the Casino industry and the ability to presume the business purpose of network traffic based on traffic logs and conventional IT tools.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any licensing or active work cards required, at present or in the future, for this position at all times.
