The Human Resources Assistant supports Human Resources activities, processes and programs and acts as a resource to employees across agencies. The Human Resources Assistant reports to the HR Director or HR Business Partner.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with staffing and pre-hire activities, including coordinating the background screening process.

  • Supports the new employee onboarding and employee exit processes.

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation. Creates and maintains accurate employee files. Tracks, follows up and uploads employee renewable documents.

  • Handles inquiries from applicants, employees, and leaders relative to policies, benefits, training, and staffing. Uses judgement to respond, refer employees or escalate as appropriate.

  • Provides employees with information about leave of absence eligibility and requirements, accident reporting, and other employee processes / programs.

  • Maintains reports and responds to internal and external requests for information, including unemployment claims.

  • Assists with the planning and execution of HR events such as benefits open enrollment and annual performance reviews.

  • Contributes to programs and projects that build morale and increase productivity and retention.

  • Provides administrative support such as scheduling, tracking, data entry, filing, and scanning.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of related experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information and function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
