Director of Human Resources

This is a Contract position in Las Vegas, NV posted September 22, 2022.

Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a Director of Human Resources to develop policy, direct and coordinate activities related to all phases of human resources for Alaska Marine Lines.

Working with our HR Manager, you will provide leadership in executing human resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction, specifically in the areas of talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation.

Provide overall leadership and guidance to HR functions by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training and leadership development, compensation and benefits.

Support managers in handling conversations regarding career growth, performance management and employee issues.

Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the Company’s strategic vision.

Function as a strategic business advisor to the executive/senior management regarding key organizational and management issues.

Work with the Company’s executive team to establish a succession plan that corresponds to the strategies and objectives of the Company.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plan.

Develop and implement comprehensive compensation plans that are competitive and within the current labor market.

Formulate and recommend program goals and objectives in all areas of employee relations.

Identify legal requirements to ensure policies and procedures affecting human resources functions follow locla, state and federal laws.

Develop and prepare the annual Affirmative Action Plan according to EEO regulations.

Manage administration of ADA, FMLA, and military leave programs.

Manage administration of the workers’ compensation program and oversees claims and corrective actions, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.

Administer the Company “Fit for Work” program and manage drug and alcohol testing program.

Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs such as health benefits, disability insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.

Coordinate and executes company events, including charitable, health and wellness, employee training programs, employee engagement events and screenings.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in human resources management required.

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Knowledge of Washington State employment regulations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card.) Identification or passport valid for travel required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to meet a flexible work schedule.

Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.

This is a primarily office-based role but with the flexibility to work off-site as appropriate.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks to meet schedules/deadlines and to delegate them when appropriate.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software with keyboarding proficiency.

Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.

Successful candidates are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless qualified for a recognized exemption.

A post conditional offer of employment drug test, and background screen are required.
