Position Summary

The Respiratory Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the assigned personnel and performance of any and all cardio-respiratory and pulmonary therapies ultimately responsible for the care and maintenance of all Respiratory Therapy equipment, accessories, and required supplies.  The Respiratory Supervisor is also responsible for the maintenance of all appropriate records and reports to include department education activities as well as continuing quality improvement of the Cardiopulmonary Department.



The Respiratory Supervisor must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to direct care appropriate to the patients served in his/her department.  The Respiratory Supervisor must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan of the patient and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.  The Respiratory Supervisor must direct the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

A.         Minimum

1.            Graduate of an accredited RespiratoryProgram.

2.            Two to three years recent relatedclinical experience.

3.            Preferred experience in all facets ofCardiopulmonary in major tertiary clinical referral center.

4.            Registered by National Board ofRespiratory Care.

5.            Licensed as a Respiratory CarePractitioner by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.

6.            Nevadalicense to perform arterial blood gases.

7.            Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP

8.            Possess effective communication skills,both written and verbal.

9.            Has basic knowledge of the growth,development, and range of treatment needed by respiratory patients includingrespiratory and pulmonary in all clinical settings in the tertiary care center.


B.         Special

1.     Interpersonalskills necessary to work productively with all levels of hospital personnel andto manage the activities of a group of employees.

2.     Leadershipskills to direct others toward objectives that contribute to the success of thedepartment.

3.     Analyticalskills necessary t evaluate patient status, health care procedures andtechniques, and to monitor the quality of patient care.

4.     Analyticalability to identify opportunities for improvement and problem resolution.

5.     Teachingabilities to conduct seminars and courses for staff and to assist with patientteaching as needed.

6.     Fiscalskills to monitor and control costs and evaluate revenue sources.




Able to perform duties averaging 80 hours per pay period;some weekend and holiday work is necessary. Primarily a day position but must be flexible to work evenings andnights when necessary.
