Nurse Practitioner – Internal Medicine

DESCRIPTION:
Fidelity Partners is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner FNP (Internal Medicine) to support Nellis AFB, NV. This role is responsible for providing optimal inpatient and outpatient services independently and collaboratively to provide healthcare for well and sick adults ages 18 and up, with physician consultation available. May refer patients to specialty clinics, and assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a full range of FNP services in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated.
  • Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for, and treat diseases, disorders and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform the designated treatment.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures, and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Prescribe approved medications and immunizations.
  • Identify a medical problem and determine the appropriate action to treat the patient, including referral to a physician.
  • Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with the scope of practice.
  • Establish collaborative rapport with a physician, nursing staff, and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.
  • Teach patients and family members healthy regimens and responsibilities for achieving wellness.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement.

QUALIFYING SKILLS:
REQUIRED

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) preliminary interpretation
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

 DESIRED

  • Arthrocentesis
  • Aspiration and injection of joints and Musculo-tendonous units
  • Biopsy (punch, shave)
  • Excision of superficial cysts and skin lesions
  • Fluorescein staining
  • Irrigation of the eye, ear, and wounds
  • Incision and drainage of cysts, minor abscesses, & thrombosed hemorrhoids
  • Joint injection
  • Laceration repair
  • Laryngoscopy
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Needle aspiration
  • Order and initially interpret basic radiological films
  • Paracentesis
  • Needle aspiration
  • Regional nerve block anesthesia
  • Splinting and stabilizing spine or extremity injuries
  • Thoracentesis
  • Tonometry and tonography

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree (MSN) Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) – Certified by the AANP
  • Valid unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • 2 years experience in the last 36 months
  • Experience in Internal Medicine is highly desired.
