The Joint Replacement Unit at the St Rose Dominican hospital- San Martin campus- is a 30 bed nursing unit consisting of private rooms. We are primarily a surgical unit caring for post-op total joint replacement, shoulder and spine surgeries along with a variety of abdominal, OB-GYN and Laparscopic surgeries. With our orthopedic patients we occasional use CPM, Auto-transfuser, and have a ceiling track for safe early ambulation. We also care for medical patient overflow. Our unit does not care for patients requiring isolation to lower risk of infection of those patients with implants- total joints and spine surgeries. We have wonderful mix of patient diagnosis to care for. Our staff demonstrates strong teamwork to provide timely, individualized care for each patient. We focus on the patient experience ensuring excellence with all of the HCAPHs elements. The patient’s families are always included in the plan of care. The nurse work with a 5:1 patent ratio and CNA staffing is based on census. We have a Nurse Shift Manager on each shift to manage patient flow, staffing and to support the staff. Overall, JRU is an enjoyable and positive work environment with excellent teamwork.



Position Summary:

The registered nurse employs critical thinking to integrate objective data with knowledge gained from an assessment of the subjective experiences of patients. Registered nurses use this critical thinking process to apply the best available evidence and research data to the processes of diagnosis and treatment. Nurses continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and seek to optimize outcomes.

  • Medical/clinical knowledge, technical and clinical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills and communication as indicated in the current Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals are essential components of nursing practice.

  • This position is represented by CNA and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • One (1) year experience as an RN in an acute care setting or successful completion of applicable clinical and didactic SRDH specialty training course(s) or program.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • RN – Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.

  • CT CPRBLS – Basic Life Support – AHA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year acute care experience, preferably with an orthopedic focus.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  • Certification in Specialty Area.
