Financial Controller

Nevada Heart and Vascular Center

This is a Full-time position in Las Vegas, NV posted June 20, 2022.

Nevada Heart & Vascular Center a leading provider of cardiac, vascular, imaging, sleep center and other ancillary services including invasive and noninvasive procedures is looking for a Controller to join our organization.

Position Summary:

The controller is an integral part of the company’s accounting and finance department. They will manage internal staff and contractors, collaborate with other departments within the organization and ensure adherence to all accounting policies and procedures to produce and ensure timely and accurate reporting of consolidated financial results on a GAAP basis. Key areas of responsibility include the production of monthly and annual financial statements, financial statement analysis, audit related activity, accounts payable oversight and maintenance of internal controls and financial systems.

The controller is a key leadership role that will be integral in planning and implementing the company’s move from cash basis accounting to accrual accounting in preparation of the company’s migration to a new financial reporting system. This positons reports to the Chief Financial Officer. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred but not required.
  • 12+ years of accounting experience with 7+ years of experience at a healthcare organization and 2+ years as controller.

Job Knowledge

  • Have a deep knowledge of accounting rules, principles, policies, procedures required to produce and present financials statements and accompanying footnotes for a healthcare organization in accordance with US GAAP including:
    • Understanding of how to value patient AR and revenue using ZBA methodology
    • Understanding of KPI’s in healthcare organization and analyzing and explaining revenue changes month over month
    • Experience performing a hindsight analysis on patient accounts receivable on a monthly/quarterly basis
    • Understanding on how to make changes to the aging reserves for patient accounts receivable based on patient collection history
    • Understanding of the accounting for credit balances in patient AR
    • Understanding of month-end journal entries to record AR/Revenue contractual reserves and bad debt
  • Have knowledge of internal controls required to ensure validity of financial statements and satisfy typical audit requirements.
  • While in a controller positon, have experience working with auditors and planning for and successfully managing the annual financial statement audit process.
  • Proficient in computer systems, spreadsheets, financial systems and applications such as QuickBooks and NetSuite.
  • Have experience managing, growing and developing a high-performing accounting team.
  • Skill in analyzing financial data and preparing appropriate related reports.
  • Has excellent decision-making skills and can act and operate independently with minimal direction to accomplish objectives.
  • Is able to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity and problem solving.
  • Has an excellent capacity to prioritize effectively and stay poised in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Has excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to build cross functional relationships with all levels within the organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

Essential Duties

  • Direct and coordinate the overall functions of accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage general ledger and perform all month-end and year-end close processes including any account, statement or transaction reconciliations
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and standardize accounting procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state tax laws, and all regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain and ensure effective internal controls within accounting function.
  • Participate in the development, update and review of Nevada Heart and Vascular’s operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with all tax matters including year-end filings, sales taxes, city taxes, and any tax credit studies.
  • Review third-party contracts and develop processes for measuring and reporting the revenue and costs from these contracts in accordance with GAAP.
  • Serve as primary liaison with third-party payers to ensure adequate and timely information is provided to measure the contracts.
  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of financial systems, work with consultants and other staff to ensure timely and accurate implementations.
  • Direct, coordinate and oversee audit related work including but not limited to the annual audit of the financial statements, the Medicare cost report audit and any special financial audits that occur (i.e., IRS, sales tax, and Nevada Care).
  • Lead and drive continuous process improvements and efficiency within accounting functions, resulting in more streamlined and cost-effective processes.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and decision making skills adhering to Corporate, Department and HR policies and procedures.
  • Participate in or lead special projects, ad-hoc analyses and support various finance and operations related work as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Employee is required to have visual and auditory acuity necessary for communications with other employees and/or customers to meet business needs.
  • Employee must be able to see written documentation and be able to speak and hear for communication with employees/customers.
  • Ability to use a wide array of office equipment including, but not limited to a PC, copier, fax, multi-line telephone, etc.
  • Employee is exposed to general indoor working conditions and may on occasion require light lifting or no greater than 20 pounds and some offsite travel.
